Its A New Year.....So Time For A new Car?

Fat chance...

With my credit score, the only car that I would be eligible to finance could be carting around a family with the last name of Grizzwald.

I know....bad joke, but I digress.

If you are in the market for a new car, the beginning of the new year is the best time for car buyers. Car dealers are chomping at the bit to get rid of their last year inventory to make way for the shiny, brand new boxes on wheels.

I wrote an article about how not to be taken for a ride by a car dealer when you set your sights for a new ride.

The Start 2 A Busy Weekend

Although the holiday season does not officially begin until later on this week, preparation for the month long eating/shopping bonanza for me begins today.

A good college friend from NYC will be coming into town Tuesday evening and staying with me so most of today, I will be cleaning the apartment and looking for a new couch…good thing Design Within Reach’s semi-annual warehouse sale is going on today.

Not only that; local shops here in my neighborhood of Over-the-Rhine will be participating in the nationwide campaign to shop local. So to support my fellow local chop owners, I will be obliged to begin my Christmas shopping early.

The Holiday season is also the season for giving back, so in the middle of my shopping escapades, I will be stopping by the Butts Family Foundation’s 21st Annual “In The Garage Sale” on 13th street in OTR. It’s a great rummage sale put on each year where proceeds to help feed needy families for Thanksgiving.

Much to do and so little time to get it all done.

Santa Comes Early To Pendleton

Last Sunday, in the grandiose Bell Event Center, Pendleton Neighborhood Council (PNC) invited children residing in Pendleton to come in and experience Christmas a bit early this year.

For the past few years, PNC funds a Holiday party geared towards the residents of Pendleton filled with craft making and dancing.


The event is topped off with a special appearance oh jolly St. Nick who towers above everyone else at well over 6 feet tall.


Every children leaves with an age appropriate wrapped gift to place under the tree.

Happy Easter!

My Buns are hot....and crossed

A hot cross bun is a type of sweet bun composed of currants and leavened with yeast ornamented with a cross on the top made with frosting.

Historically, these sweets are traditionally eaten on today, Good Friday, having the cross standing as a symbol of the crucifixion. Believed by some to pre-date Christianity, according to what I have read, the term "hot cross bun" did not appear 1733.

Though I grew up Catholic, I have never heard of these tasty treats until this morning when I stopped in to Shadeau Bread to pick up my morning egg and cheese croissant. I chatted up the attendant, and on my way out, she presented me with one of these treats.

Is anyone else as clueless to this tradition as I am?
